Bill Reid Museum Visit - “Language Matters”

Kw'umut Lelum staff and thirteen youth from the canoe family visited the Bill Reid Museum in Vancouver on Saturday Sept 14th. The exhibit was titled “Language Matters” and featured new graffiti and collage works created by urban indigenous youth and community members. In recognition of the United Nation’s International Year of Indigenous Languages the exhibit highlighted language as a way for indigenous youth to reconnect with their culture and support healing due to a long history of cultural erasure. It was a good opportunity for the canoe family to spend some time together and the youth very much enjoyed the trip to Vancouver.
