October is Foster Parent Appreciation Month in BC and Kw'umut Lelum took the opportunity to honour our caregivers with an evening of celebration on October 18th.
Despite the stormy weather, we had a wonderful turnout at the Cavallotti Lodge in Nanaimo. Our Kw'umut Lelum Caregivers were served a delicious turkey dinner, entertained by The Big Mess (a talented father/son musical duo) and most importantly, they were honoured in a two ceremonies: a blanketing ceremony and a brushing off ceremony.
Our thanks to Councillor Doug White of Snuneymuxw who gave the Welcome to Snuneymuxw territory address, to Colleen Manson & Wayne Seward of Snuneymuxw and Jeremy Jones of Snaw-Naw-As who conducted the blanketing and cedar brushing ceremonies, and to KL staff Deborah Good & Leanor Wyse for their Prayer song.
But our biggest thanks must go to our caregivers, who open their hearts and homes to our children and provide a stable, supportive environment for children and youth in care.
