Nanaimo Fire Rescue ensures our safety following electrical fire

A crawlspace fire on Wednesday, September 21st has resulted in heavy structural damage to Kwumut Lelum’s Centre St. offices, although thankfully no one was injured. KL staff want to extend their sincere gratitude to Nanaimo Fire Rescue for their quick response in getting the fire under control. We also want to thank B.C. Ambulance Services for their kindness and compassion in treating two of our family for smoke inhalation on the scene.

While the fire was quickly contained, it has caused major damage to floor joists, plumbing and electrical systems, making it currently unsafe for our staff and the families they serve. We are temporarily relocating staff until repairs can be made, but want to assure everyone that there will be no delay or cancellation of any KL services in the meantime.
