Traditional Dance Teachings, Traditional Drum Making & Drum Circles Galore

Traditional Dance Teachings Huychqa to Ray Peter from Cowichan Tribe who shared his teachings of traditional dance with the KL family on February 2 in Halalt, and February 9 in Snuneymuxw. Traditional Drum Making Please join our facilitator Jorge Lewis from Snuneymuxw First Nation to learn about and create a drum. Session #1 Date: February 16, 2016: 5pm – 8:00pm Where: KL Mini Bighouse, 544 Centre Street Session #2 Date: February 23, 2016: 5:00pm – 8:00pm Where: Halalt Community Hall, Chemainus Road By the end of the sessions, our goals for each KL youth are: 1. Participate in the making of a traditional drum 2. Receive teachings surrounding care and use of a drum 3. Understand the traditional significance of drums and songs to indigenous people 4S Cultural Programs are available to each youth in care of Kwumut Lelum. Youth must be supervised at all times by a caregiver or an adult approved by each child’s Guardian. A light dinner will be provided at each session. Only 20 spots available- workshop FULL.
