Representatives of the Kwumut Lelum youth attended the Federation of British Columbia Youth in Care Network Steering Committee Meeting and Annual General Meeting at the Easter Seals Camp in Squamish from February 20- 22. En route to the event, the group took a trip up the gondola to take in the views of the Squamish Valley and conquer our fear of heights. At the camp, the youth had an opportunity to advocate for and vote upon matters affecting themselves, other youth in and from care and their allies. One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity for the KL youth to take a leadership group and share Coast Salish teachings, songs and dances with the other participants. For more information about “the Fed” and how to become involved in advocating for youth in care rights check out http://fbcyicn.ca/about or contact Britta at the KL office.
