The Elders' Committee is made up of one member and an alternate from each of the nine Nations. To be an active member of the Committee the elder must complete a training program, be in good standing with the community, and complete legal documentation of their good standing.

Since time immemorial Sulhween have been our true leaders. Important decision making always involved consultation with the Sulhween. They provide the clearest and strongest reccomendations that ensured the safety and well being of the children and family unit.

They valued the strength and well being of their 'imuth (grandchild).Today, our Elders continue the way of our Hwulmuhw (Native) culture by providing the snuw'uyulh and traditional governance. Kw'umut Lelum respects the guidance and wisdom of the Sulhween.

Le'lemutul Tsi'tsuwatul (Looking after one another, helping one another), Sulhween Snuw'uyulh Mustimuhw (Elder teaching people) from Qualicum, Snaw-naw-us (Nanoose), Snuneymuxw (Nanaimo), Stz'uminus (Chemainus), Halalt, Penelakut (Kuper Island), Lyackson, Lake Cowichan, Malahat, nutsumat mustimuhw (one people) 'a'lhutul ste' (working together, being respectful, honorable, and gentle to one another) 'u tu Sulhween tst (like our Elders/ancestors)
