Core Services
Core Services,
as described below is Kw'umut Lelum's way of sharing responsibility for the many issues facing our children and families. Kw'umut Lelum is committed to the long term plan for the Hw'ulmuhw Mustimuhw (native people) to ensure the safetly and well being of children and families.
Intake Service
Intake is the process of recieving services inquiries or requests from any member of the Nine Nations. Currently we are working with the Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) in handling reports of children needing protection. Until we achieve full responsibility of the person who is reporting a child in need of protection must contact the Ministry.
We work with the Ministry to ensure their actions are currently appropriate and assist then in investigating resports on children in need of protection. We share with the Ministry relevant information on Coast Salish culture and community protocol to assist them in conducting their investigations in an appropriate and sensitive manner. Since November 2003, the agency has been involved in 71 investigations.
When Kw'umut Lelum is fully delegated we will be responsible to operate Intake twenty four hours a day, throughout the year. Kw'umut Lelum staff will work with our communities and their agencies such as the local RCMP detachments, schools, health units and other agencies operating in the Nations' territories.
