Introduction to community development programs
Donna Johnny, Community Development Facilitator Community development programs bring people together - Nutsamaat shqaluwun (people working together with one mind) towards a strong and healthy future. The Programs draw upon the Snuw'uyulh (teachings) of the Sulhween (Elders), the strength of the parents, and the vitality of the youth to practice and promote physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health and well-being. The Elders carry with them the community's culture and traditional knowledge. We recieve valuable guidance from them. We also work with a strong group of parents who are dedicated to practicing and sharing the knowledge they have learned in their program. They are the vital link between Elders and children. Through them communities develop. And through the Youth Life Skills program, we provide to youth educational, social and recreational opportunities. The graduates from this program will be positive role models for the youth in the nine nations. These programs will support our community's on-going development.
